This fantastic pipe greatly resembles existing Whittlesey Culture pipes from the Great Lakes region of Ohio. Could have been traded or brought to southern Indiana. It is the image of a pregnant woman. Platter aquired this piece from the same old family collection in Posey Co, Indiana between the dates 1980-81.

Tennessee Great Pipe. Early Woodland to Late Woodland. In the form of a "diving" Night Hawk or Falcon. This type of artifact is scarce beyond belief. Collected in the mid 1950's from estate sale in Dixon, Tennessee. It was found wrapped in clothing in an old travel trunk. I actually believe this story that was told to me. Made of steatite. 8 3/4" long.
